Heart failure is a condition in which the heart can’t pump enough blood to meet the body’s needs. In some cases, the heart can’t fill with enough blood. In other cases, the heart can’t pump blood to the rest of the body with enough force. About 23 million people worldwide are currently living with heart failure. Research over the last decade has allowed us to understand heart failure and develop treatments—such as medicines and lifestyle changes— which help people with heart failure live longer and more active lives.
The DeBakey Institute for Cardiovascular Education & Training conducts a Houston Heart Failure Management Conference to empower patients with heart failure to manage their condition effectively. The videos from this conference will help you learn more about the disease process, identify your heart failure needs and various treatment options. More importantly, you will develop an understanding of the team based care for this condition and the roles of your team members, including family and friends. Finally, you will have a chance to learn about patient experiences while living with heart failure. There is also a cooking demonstration including as part of this conference.
